Residency Program Letter
On behalf of the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, I want to personally welcome you to the Department's website. Our department’s teaching methods and training curricula have been designed to provide residents with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed and flourish as primary care providers. As our department continues to expand, our mission remains the same - to provide first-rate educational programs and opportunities for our residents while offering the highest quality of service and care to our patients.
The University Hospital offers our residents opportunities to rotate at the Winifred Wiser Hospital for Women, the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children as well as numerous other ambulatory and ER services. Our two community practice clinics, West Jackson Family Medical and Lakeland Family Practice, serve a diverse community of patients ranging from infants to the elderly. Faculty and private practitioners teach, guide, and supervise residents as they gain invaluable knowledge, insight and confidence.
Our community hospital, the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center (MBMC) provides a number of educational opportunities and support. It is within this setting that the department operates its family medicine inpatient service and provides emergency room care for our own and non-referred patients. The MBMC staff act as sub-specialty consultants and rotation supervisors.
Our residents enjoy the benefits of an expert, caring faculty, high quality of life, and a creative and academically sound curriculum. I hope that you will enjoy our website and look forward to you visiting us soon.
