Salary

Our institutional leadership has approved the following salary for residents/fellows beginning July 1, 2009.

2009 - 2010 Salaries:

PGY 1   $45,331.00
PGY 2   $46,419.00
PGY 3   $47,716.00

Vacation

Eighteen (18) working days are earned during each year of training.

Conferences

Five (5) working days of conference leave may be requested in each of the second and third years of residency to attend a conference of the resident's choice. Additional educational leave is granted for any resident(s) representing the department or residency at national meetings and events. Funding is available for residents presenting at local, regional or national conferences. Chief Residents are funded to attend a national chief resident conference and the Mississippi Academy of Family Physicians annual meeting.

Uniforms

White lab coats are provided by the department each year at no charge.

Parking

Free parking is provided on the University campus and at the community hospital, MS Baptist Medical Center (MBMC).

Food

All second and third year residents, and first year residents on rotation in the community hospital, are provided free meals in the Doctor's Lounge at MS Baptist Medical Center (MBMC). First year residents are provided meal vouchers for dinner and breakfast when on call at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Professional Dues

Membership dues in the AAFP and MAFP are paid by the department for each resident.

Certification Courses

The department pays for each resident to be certified in ACLS and PALS. Residents are allowed administrative leave for ATLS training.

Educational Resources

All new residents are provided a personal digital assistant with selected software for their personal and professional use. Books are provided to residents throughout the program and on various rotations. A complete, up-to-date library of educational materials is maintained in the resident Teaching Center for resident use. Up to date reference libraries are available at both clinics and in the resident call room. Email, Internet access, full library access to journals, patient education materials and medical information through Up to Date, PubMed, and MD Consult among others, are provided at no cost through UMC Intranet Services.

Health Club Membership

Residents have free access to the fitness facility located in the student union on the University campus. Residents are given a reduced joining and maintenance fee at the MS Baptist Medical Center Fitness Center.

Health Insurance

Residents receive free comprehensive health insurance and have the opportunity to purchase additional insurance for family members at a reduced rate. Family members covered by a resident's health insurance receive additional discounts for medical services from our providers.

Professional Liability Insurance Coverage

Residents are covered by the Institution of Higher Learning/University of Mississippi Medical Center Professional Liability Program.
