Patrick O. Smith, Ph.D., ABPP

Dr. Smith received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Mississippi in 1991. Following five years of service at the Jackson Veterans Affairs Medical Center he joined the Department of Family Medicine in 1995. He has been actively invovled in resident behavioral science training and has directed the department's Health Psychology fellowship program since 1999. His research interests focus on the integration of tobacco cessation guidelines in primary care settings. He has served as an officer in numerous professional organizations including the Association of Psychologists in Academic Health Centers, the Mississippi Psychological Association, Mississippi Board of Psychology and the National Register for Healthcare Providers in Psychology. Dr. Smith is licensed in Mississippi, is credentialed by both the Association of State and Provinical Boards of Psycholgy and the National Register, and is a diplomate with the American Board of Professional Psychology (Clinical). He provides evidence based psychological treatments to adults through the Department of Family Medicine with a special focus on anxiety disorders, addictive behaviors, and chronic disease management. He is Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs in the School of Medicine, holds a primary academic appointment as professor of Family Medicine, and holds joint appointments as Professor of Surgery, and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry & Human Behavior.
